The Monster in Baby Adam's Closet

It was bedtime and Mommy and Daddy had just tucked Baby Adam into his crib. It was dark in the corner and he could just see the closet door move. It was the Closet Monster again. Adam had never seen the Closet Monster up close so he had to guess at what he looked like.

Maybe he was big and hairy and had big Googlie eyes and green skin. And maybe he had a secret tunnel just to Baby Adam’s closet. And what if he came out of the closet and went galumphing around the room going "goo, goo, goo!" or maybe even ‘harrumph, harrumph." Wouldn’t that be terrible?

Adam thought about that a bit. Actually, he thought, that would be sort of silly for a big monster to do.

When Daddy came in with the story for Adam the monster opened the door a little wider. Adam could just see the top of a giant green eye. It was on the end of a long thin stalk and wiggled around a lot. The door opened a little more and a giant ear came out of the door.

Adam wondered if maybe the Closet Monster didn’t have a mommy and daddy. Wouldn’t that be a terrible thing?

It was all behind Daddy so he couldn’t see but he smiled anyway. "You know, Adam I had a Closet Monster too when I was your age. I was scared of him too but then I found out they just want a story."
